Human comedy

Eternal questions about the human condition: What does it all mean? Where do we come from? Where are we going? Who are we?

In most of my works, whether the 'Pourquoi?' (Why?) series or the 'Fantasmes anatomiques' (Anatomical phantasms), I am not trying to create the 'beautiful' or the 'true', but to capture and restore the tragic dimension, the burlesque, the illusory... the ambiguity of human existence.

The irony and derision that show through – sometimes pushed to the limit – in a number of my works are my very personal way of standing back from things, and also represent an attempt to create a barrier against certain of my anxieties about life.

Brought together under the heading of 'Comédie humaine' (Human Comedy), these are some glances at the spectacle of humanity, which, just as much in the past as in the present, constantly plays in the theatre of the grotesque and the absurd.
